This summer, we had the privilege of photographing Joseph and Zosia’s at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Monona, where they celebrated the sacrament of marriage surrounded by loved ones, followed by a joyous reception at the Lussier Polish Heritage Center. The entire day was a celebration of love, marked by elegance and class with the most stunning color palette of gold and white. Their wedding day, though initially challenged by rainy weather and an unexpected power outage at the church, became a testament to their resilience and unwavering joy at being joined together as man and wife.
Adjustments had to be made due to the power outage so the bridal party transformed public bathrooms and a dimly lit church basement into makeshift preparation spaces. Despite the setbacks, Joseph and Zosia remained undaunted, their spirits unyielding as they embraced every moment of their special day. The ceremony itself was nothing short of amazing and beautiful. Taking place on the Feast of the Immaculate Heart at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, it carried a profound significance, and taking place in the dark it felt like a candlelit Easter Vigil.
One particularly touching moment of the day stands out : as I (Jessie) rode to the ceremony with the bride, her mother, and the maid of honor, a palpable sense of nerves filled the air due to the power outage. In a gesture of solidarity and faith, the maid of honor led a heartfelt prayer—a Hail Mary—putting the situation fully into the hands of the Lord. Zosia’s mom then said the prayer again, this time in Polish. It was a small yet powerful reminder of how beautiful our Faith is and how wonderful it was to share it together.
For Adam and I, Joseph and Zosia’s wedding day was more than just another assignment. It was a reaffirmation of why we cherish Catholic weddings—the opportunity to capture not only beautiful moments but also the profound expressions of faith and love that define such occasions. Our proactive approach in navigating the unforeseen challenges of photographing in a dark church ensured that Joseph and Zosia could focus on what truly mattered: celebrating their union amidst the support of family and friends.
As we reflect on this remarkable day, we are reminded that true joy transcends circumstances. Joseph and Zosia’s story serves as an inspiration—a testament to the beauty of love, faith, and resilience in the face of adversity. We feel privileged to have been part of their journey and look forward to sharing their story through these photographs for years to come.
Cheers to Joseph and Zosia—a couple whose wedding day will undoubtedly be remembered not only for its challenges but, more importantly, for the profound joy and beauty that radiated from start to finish!
Lots of love,
Jessie
